India vs. New Zealand: Kohli boys overpowered the Kiwis

Playing in the decider match in Thiruvananthapuram, Virat Kohli and his power packed team defeated the Kiwis in a fantastic match yesterday by six runs clinching the series by 2-1.
The entire game appeared to be a disciplined bowling display given by the Indian bowlers that helped them earn their first bilateral Twenty20 series victory playing against New Zealand. India defeated the kiwis in a rain curtailed match of 8 overs where they fell short of six runs letting the hosts win with a 2-1 series score.

The bowlers did a fantastic job with Jasprit Bumrah (2/9) and Yuzvendra Chahal (8 runs in 2 overs) led bowling setup that abandoned the New Zealand batsmen to catch up with the rapidly increasing required run-rate. Colin de Grandhomme was the single handed man trying to save their grace who remained not out scoring 17 runs.

The match appeared to be pretty exciting throughout, however the final overs tend to be the final decider with the hosts overpowering the game. Earlier the toss got interrupted by the rains that led the game to a curtailed over limit of just 8 overs.

Batting first the Indian team set a target of 68 runs. Batting then after, the Kiwis started well but soon lost 2 wickets easily. They were at a tricky position and kept trying till the end but batting against the Indian bowlers appeared to be pretty difficult with every new bowler coming on board. Wickets kept falling one after the other.  Rohit Sharma took an exotic catch that appeared to be the turning point in the game.

Once Bhuvneshwar Kumar was done with his quota of two overs and Jasprit Bumrah had already bowled the penultimate over, Indians were only left a few choices among the specialist bowlers. Kuldeep Yadav was expected to bowl the final over, however, captain Kohli offered Hardik Pandya to take the final shot and he did his job pretty well leading the India Tigers to the victory.

In the post-match press, Kohli addressed the media saying, "In the second innings, they didn't give too many boundary balls. We wanted our best bowlers to get done early and leave so many runs in the end they would be left with a lot. They executed the plans well."

Man of the Match and Man of the Series: Jasprit Bumrah

 Score Card:
India: 67/5 in 8 overs

New Zealand: 61/6 in 8 overs

Result: India won the series by 6 runs
